How do you feel about accessories? Do you love them and wear a lot of different ones? Or do you tend to stick with the same ones over and over?

I am definitely in the latter group. I have my everyday staples…wedding ring, watch, hoop earrings and gold necklace/pendant. I don’t stray too far from these 4 items but I do love wearing a silk bandana every now and then. I find it to be a very versatile item in a wardrobe that is a great addition to an outfit.

My use of one comes and goes, but I always love when I rediscover it! I tend to wear them more in the colder months, which makes sense I guess since it gives me another option for layering and warmth.

I was recently gifted a silk bandana from Tradlands. And in case you’ve been interested in adding a bandana to your wardrobe, or you own one but you’re not sure how to style it, I’ve put together a few options.

I hope you find a few that you like. I’d love to know what ones you’ve tried before or what one’s you’ve never thought of.

Style Option 1

This is my new favorite way to deal with my hair when it’s not quite wash day but my hair needs a little something extra.

Step 1: Fold a square bandana in half to create a triangle.

Step 2: Starting at the pointed part, roll the scarf until it forms a straight line.

Step 3: Twist the folded bandana a few times, tie it around your neck to the length you want and push it up into your hair.

Style Option 2

This is similar to option 1 but the ties are at the base of the neck.

Step 1: Fold a square bandana in half to create a triangle.

Step 2: Starting at the pointed part, roll the scarf until it forms a straight line.

Step 3: Twist the folded bandana a few times, tie it to the length you want, turn to around so that the ends are at the back of your neck and push it up into your hair.

Bandana is also worn as a headband but the ties are not visible.

Style Option 3

Want to tie your hair back with something a little prettier than a hair elastic. Try a bandana 😉

Step 1: Fold a square bandana in half to create a triangle.

Step 2: Starting at the pointed part, roll the scarf until it forms a straight line.

Steps 3: Place the twisted bandana under your hair and pull it all together with the bandana.

The bandana is tied around the hair at the base of the head.

Step 4: Knot the bandana around the gathered hair. Leave the ends long or wrap them around and tie them again.

Style Option 4

This style option reminds me of my mom. She always ties her hair back like this with a bandana when she makes her delicious homemade bread.

Step 1: Fold a square bandana in half to create a triangle.

Step 2: Place the long edge at the front of your hair and tie the ends of the bandana underneath.

The bandana is mostly covering the hair with the pointed part of the triangle at the back of the head.

Style Option 5

This is definitely the way that I wear a bandana most of the time.

Step 1: Fold a square bandana in half to create a triangle.

Step 2: Starting at the pointed part, roll the scarf until it forms a straight line.

Step 3: Twist the folded bandana a few times and tie it at the base of your neck.

Style Option 6

This is a very similar to style option 6 except the ties are in the back. It feels a little dressier though.

Step 1: Fold a square bandana in half to create a triangle.

Step 2: Starting at the pointed part, roll the scarf until it forms a straight line.

Step 3: Place the middle of the bandana against the front of your neck and tie it at the back.

Style Option 7

This is another way that I often wear a bandana. I like how it adds a lot of visual interest to an otherwise neutral outfit.

I own a lot of black clothing so I like that something as simple as a bandana can add a pop of color.

Step 1: Fold a square bandana in half to create a triangle.

Step 2: With the long part against your neck, tie the bandana at the back of your neck.

Style Option 8

A bandana also makes a really fun bracelet! I’ve worn it like this a few times before, mostly when I no longer want to wear it in my hair or around my neck.

Step 1: Fold a square bandana in half to create a triangle.

Step 2: Starting at the pointed part, roll the scarf until it forms a straight line.

Step 3: Wrap the folded bandana around your arm a few times and tie the ends in a knot.

Step 4: Leave the ends free or tuck the ends under, as I’ve done here.

Style Option 9

I think this is one we’ve probably all seen a few times before. Use a bandana to add a little fun accent to your handbag.

Step 1: Fold a square bandana in half to create a triangle.

Step 2: Starting at the pointed part, roll the scarf until it forms a straight line.

Step 3: Tie it around the handle (the first photo) or the strap (second photo).

Style Option 10

No bandana styling post in 2020 is complete without showing how a bandana can be wore as a mask in an emergency situation.

Step 1: Fold a square bandana in half to create a triangle.

Step 2: Place the long part over your nose and tie in the back.
