Hi. I hope that you are okay and that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. Because of COVID-19, things certainly look, and feel, very different than they did last spring. We are currently on day 22 of social distancing, and the end of the period is unclear. I am very thankful that I am with my family and that we have everything that we need right now, even if our toilet paper is starting to run low! If there’s a silver lining in all of this, I will never take human interaction (or toilet paper) for granted ever again.
I hope that I can provide a little fun distraction for you today with my cozy spring capsule. I had initially pulled items for my spring capsule wardrobe about a month ago. I included casual and dressy items that could be dressed up or down. Items that I could wear to a number of places. Items that were meant for a life out in the world. That is not my reality at the moment. My reality, like a lot of yours, means that I am confined to my house, with the occasional walk outside. My new reality means that I needed to take a different approach to my capsule wardrobe, so I decided that I would do a cozy capsule wardrobe instead.
I removed the dressier items from my original selection and I included more cozy items. A few of the items from my winter capsule which I had planned to put away, as they would have been too warm for spring, made their way back in. I only wanted to include items that I could sit comfortably in, items that would be comfortable for all of the movies that I will inevitably watch, and items that I could go for a walk in.
The selection that I ended up feels like the perfect lineup for this period of life. As of right now, I have a total of 31 clothing items, with a plan to add 2 items that I will make myself. As usual, I didn’t include shoes or accessories.
I have directly linked the items that I could or have provided similar items to the ones in my capsule. I did this, not to encourage shopping, but to provide you with resources in case you had similar items on your wishlist. As always, please refer to the secondhand market where you can. Me Made Items
As I mentioned above, I plan to make 2 items for my cozy capsule wardrobe. I have only learned to use my sewing machine over the past year and I have been able to hem a few of things so far.
I am at the point where I feel confident enough to try my hand at making my own clothing, which is something that I have wanted to do for a very long time. I think that making my own clothes is a natural progression in my sustainability journey. I am continuously inspired by makers that I follow on Instagram who have amazing wardrobes that they have made for themselves, such as Rachael of @minimalistmachinist, Susan of @thatlittlebitofpretty and Ellie of @the.weekend.sewist.
I have ordered 2 patterns that I have been wanting to make for a long time…the Wilder Gown from Friday Pattern Company and the Arnite Pants from Sew Liberated. I plan to make the Wilder Gown out for natural silk noil and the Arnite Pants from caramel silk noil that I have ordered.
Favorite outfits from my cozy capsule wardrobe
Here are a few of my favorite outfits that I’ve worn from my cozy capsule wardrobe so far:
I post daily outfits to my Instagram account (@uncomplicatedspaces), so follow me over there to see how this capsule plays out on a daily basis. And if you haven’t already signed up for my newsletter, you can sign up in the right sidebar ➡️. I send out a little note from me and a link whenever a new post is available.
I hope you enjoyed getting a peak into my cozy capsule wardrobe. I have certainly enjoyed wearing it thus far.
I will be letting you in on a little mini capsule wardrobe series that I am currently doing very soon. If you follow me on Instagram you make already know about my “Capsule by 5” (#capsulex5) wardrobe challenge, where I style 5 items from my larger capsule into a number of different outfits (in the first capsule, I made 7; for the second capsule, I’m aiming for 10!). My goal with this mini challenge is to show how many outfits can be made with such a small selection. I’m also saving it for future travel capsule inspiration.
If there’s anything specific that you’d like me to write about in terms of capsules or style in general, please let me know in the comments and I’ll get on it!
Stay safe!
Until next time,
Pin it for later…
