Converse high tops…the quintessential warm weather shoe. Always in style and so versatile. With warm weather just around the corner, or already here for some, I figured that the timing was right to put together a “how to style converse” post. And although it’s spring at the time of writing this post, the outfits that I have chosen can translate across most seasons…with maybe an extra layer or two!
Honestly, as much as I love them now, I only bought my first pair of converse sneakers 2 summers ago. I purchased them secondhand from eBay and they have been one of my best purchases ever! And after wearing them on repeat for the past 2 years (excluding winters…but only because it’s too cold and snowy here), I think they are pretty adaptable to many different styles and they add a fun element to any outfit.
I tend to be pretty casual with my warm weather shoes. Well, with shoes in general. So it’s no wonder that these have become a staple. I own them in white and although they have yellowed a little, I like it. It makes me feel less precious about them and it gives them character. They came to me pretty white so I’m confident that if I did want to clean them up, I’d be able to.
I’ve chosen pieces that are casual and some that are dressier to (hopefully) show that you can style converse with any item in your wardrobe. I’ve chosen pieces that are fairly common and that most people would own so that you don’t feel the need to shop, but to get inspiration to shop your wardrobe instead.
An asterisk (*) below indicates items that I have purchased secondhand. I will always encourage you to consume less and use what you already won. And when you do buy something, to look for it secondhand first before purchasing new.
All other items are old or ones that I have made.
Outfit 1 – Casual and Sporty
When I put my spring capsule together, I knew I wanted to include some more casual pieces, especially for hot days when I have errands to run. My fallback for the warmer seasons is always this old bodysuit and these track pants.
It’s a pretty sporty outfit and probably the first type of outfit you think of when it comes to something to style converse with.
I added a few old necklaces and a silk scarf (that I knotted off to the side so it didn’t hide the necklaces…plus, I think it looks cooler) to dress it up a bit and to make it more interesting. My black backpack is another staple during the warmer months and I love it with this outfit .

Outfit 2- Monochrome with a Pop of Color
I love monochrome outfits. Especially white ones. A little dangerous…sure. But we have to find some way to live on the edge nowadays. And I can’t think of anything more dangerous than spilling coffee on this dress!
I like to add colorful socks and handbags to outfits in the warmer months. Even though my current capsule had the most colorful pieces out of any of the capsules that I’ve ever done, I still have plenty of neutral items too. Which makes it feel like a fun, but balanced, capsule.
And I love the color green. It is stiff competition for the color blue when it comes to naming my favorite color and may edge out blue just a little. There’s just something so happy about green and I definitely felt that with this outfit.

Outfit 3 – Floral and Fancy
This silk floral dress is probably the fanciest dress I own but I’ve never worn it anywhere fancy.
I’m a firm believer in wearing your special occasion clothes everyday. I have been an advocate of doing this for a few years now, but the pandemic really drove that home for me. Every day that we wake up is a special occasion so why not wear our special things to celebrate life…even if we aren’t going anywhere!
I love to style converse with fancy dresses. I always feel amazing and pretty cool. It’s also a really comfortable combo which is a win win in my book.
I added my grey printed handbag which doesn’t really match anything in the outfit but it “just goes”. The fact that it’s grey and therefore a neutral definitely helps but I would have avoided using this bag with this outfit a few years ago. Especially because it has a black strap but there’s no black anywhere else in the outfit. I would have looked for a bag that was a color from the dress or matched the shoes.
But over the past few years, I feel like I’ve adopted a more blasé attitude when it comes to dressing. I don’t worry about being coordinated or things matching perfectly which has been really freeing. And it makes my outfits feel more interesting and unique.

Outfit 4 – Easy Breezy
Is there anything easier than throwing on a jumpsuit with some sneakers?
Well okay, maybe a dress with some sneakers but I digress. As soon as I thought of writing this post, this was the first item that popped into my head to style converse with. Probably because I’ve worn this combo before and really liked it.
I did add a vintage bolo tie and I feel like it adds the perfect laid back vibe to the outfit. I skipped the handbag because this jumpsuit has delicious pockets that hold everything that I need…card, keys, phone and lip gloss.

Outfit 5 – Cute and Colorful
I just had to! I can’t physically write a styling post and not include this dress in it! It’s one of my recent makes in my slower wardrobe year and it’s the most vibrant thing that I’ve ever made. AND it has both of my favorite colors.
Who knew a vintage blanket could make such a dreamy dress.
I decided to add a belt for a different look. I normally wear it free flowing (below), but it was nice to try a little more structure. Because of the seam placement where the top part of the dress meets the skirt, the belt was placed a little high but I quite enjoy the empire waistline it creates.
