I’m pretty sure that it’s no secret around here that I’m a Pinterest fan! My love for Pinterest is real, friends ;). We’ve had our ups and downs over the years, but it’s probably the longest, consistent relationship that I’ve had with a social media account.

I’ve even done a similar post of Pinterest inspired outfits in the past. To say I draw inspiration from Pinterest is an understatement. I often turn to it during the creative doldrums or when I am bursting with creative ideas but I’m not sure how to express them, or contain them.

The latter has been happening to me lately. Maybe it’s because I’ve thrifted a few really great pieces that I can’t wait to wear (a thrifting post is coming soon). Maybe it’s the weather which is finally cool enough to break out all of the layers that I’ve been (impatiently) waiting to wear. Whatever the reason, I have definitely amped up the time I’ve been spending on Pinterest. You can see all the goodies that I’ve been pinning here.

This fall, I have been filling mostly my fall and winter boards. I’ve been looking for cozy outfits that are reminiscent of items that I currently own. Obviously, not exactly like the items that I own, but close enough that I can draw inspiration from the outfits and recreate something similar from my own closet. Which is what inspiration is really all about, right?!?

The Pieces

A rack of clothing to be styled for this Pinterest inspired outfit post. The rack contains a grey dress, a black top, a burgundy leather jacket, a white mock neck top and a camel wool coat. There is also a small black handbag and a black belt hanging at the front. A green yucca tree plant is to the left of the rack and 3 pairs of shoes are at the base, scattered over a great fur rug.

After scrolling through the outfits that I had pinned, I decided to focus on the following items in my own wardrobe…a burgundy leather jacket that doesn’t get a lot of wear, a black silk dress that I purchased over the summer, which also doesn’t get a lot of wear, my grey slip dress and my camel wool coat (I have been waiting for a reason to break this out again). These items are perfect for some great Pinterest inspired looks!

The Looks

Pinterest Inspired Outfit #1

I pinned this image shortly after I thrifted a grey Eileen Fisher slip dress for $12. As soon as I had it, I started searching for slip dress outfits and this was one that stood out to me. Probably because of it’s dark tones. I am also drawn to the casual cool vibe of the outfit and the clean lines. And it helps that I have all of the elements in my wardrobe to style a similar outfit.

My Interpretation of Outfit #1

My interpretation of the first Pinterest inspired outfit. A woman takes a mirror selfie wearing a grey slip dress over a black long sleeve top with black boots and a black belt.

I layered a black long sleeve crew neck tee underneath this grey silk Eileen Fisher slip dress. I tried layering a wool turtleneck underneath but it was too bulky. I added the black vintage western style belt with silver tone hardware to accent my waist and I think it’s a pretty good match. Finally I added my Nisolo Dari boots to complete the look.

What do you think? Aside from some color differences, I think it’s a pretty good replication!

Pinterest Inspired Outfit #2

The second Pinterest inspired outfit inspiration. A woman is wearing a long beige cardigan over a white top and white pants. She is wearing black and brown leopard print boots and has a tan cross body bag across her chest.

I love the tones in this outfit. At one point, the only neutrals that you’d find in my closet were black, white and grey. Over the past year, I have been slowly incorporating more brown tones. I love how a few select pieces of brown clothing make my wardrobe feel much more warm and cozy. I am very attracted to the simplicity of this outfit and the long lines because of the long cardigan.

My Interpretation of Outfit #2

Most of the outfits that I tend to post are selected because something about them reminds me of items that I already have hanging in my closet. As soon as I saw the long beige cardigan, I immediately thought of my long camel colored wool coat that I bought secondhand last fall and these gorgeous Huma Blanco leopard print booties that were very generously gifted to me. In keeping with the Pinterest outfit, I kept the rest of the outfit light with a thrifted cream colored mock neck top and a pair of light colored straight leg pants. I don’t own a small brown cross body bag (I do have one on my thrift list but I haven’t come across it yet) so I added this little belt bag (I made the strap as long as possible) on top of the coat.

I’m really happy with how this outfit turned out. I love the pairing of the camel and cream and how the accessories “pop” against the lighter tones.

Are you a fan of lighter tones during the colder months?

Pinterest Inspired Outfit #3

The third Pinterest inspired outfit inspiration. A woman is wearing a long beige cardigan over a white top and white pants. She is wearing black and brown leopard print boots and has a tan cross body bag across her chest.

I was attracted to this outfit because of the gorgeous polka dot dress, which is very similar to a dress that I bought from The Real Real earlier this summer. And I have a leather jacket that I rarely wear. I’ve had it for many years, definitely over 5, but I think I could count on one hand how many times I’ve worn it. Which is such a shame, because I love it, which sounds like the opposite of how I treat it. But I can never seem to part with it, so I have to find ways to wear it. And I even know that the more that I wear it, the more I’ll want to wear it. My feelings about this jacket are obviously very conflicted.

My Interpretation of Outfit #3

And voila, here is the troublesome jacket ;). It’s a gorgeous burgundy color (I bought it when the “oxblood” color was all the rage and when I cared about trends), it’s so buttery soft and it has all of the perfect moto jacket detailing. Plus, I already own it. It’s a dream really.

I paired it with this flowy black silk dress that has silver thread polka dots all over, a pair of Frye moto boots and an old grey Coach handbag that I converted into a wristlet.

I’m actually really excited about how this outfit turned out? Hopefully I will be inspired to wear it more this fall because what’s the point of owning something so pretty if it never gets worn?

Do you have a piece of clothing that you love, but rarely wear? Can you think of a way to get more use out of it?

I hope you enjoyed reading about how I use Pinterest to make outfits from the things that I already own!

And now I’d love to hear from you! Do you use Pinterest to get outfit inspiration? Where else do you draw inspiration from?

Until next time,

Pin it for later…
