Style how-to // Layering Necklaces - Uncomplicated Spaces

I get asked quite a bit about how I layer my necklaces and although I do not claim to be an expert on the matter, I thought it would be fun to put together a little post about my process. Since layered necklaces are having a moment, I think it’s a worthwhile topic for discussion. Maybe they’ve always been having a moment, but it’s only been on my radar since last fall. It’s a fun way to add some visual interest to an outfit, especially an outfit that consists of solid colors, like, let’s be real here, most of my outfits.

I thought it’d be helpful to break this post up into 3 parts:

Inspiration

I get a lot of my styling inspiration from Pinterest. In fact, I enjoy it so much that I wrote a Pinterest inspired style post in the past. I find it therapeutic to scroll and pin pretty pictures of clothing and accessories, so it was only natural that I would start pinning layered necklaces! I’m a big fan of the look of three or more layered necklaces, and those are the images that I’ve been pinning mostly. But I also love the simplicity of just a few necklaces, so I’ve included a picture for that too. Check out my Pinterest Jewelry page for these (and more) images.

Process

After pinning a few images and feeling that this was something that I could incorporate into my personal style, I did a inventory of the necklaces that I already owned. I quickly realized that I had a few options available and I set out to see if they would work together. Most of my necklaces are roughly the same length, but luckily, a few of the chains have an option to shorten or lengthen them. This made it possible for me to get the layered effect, although it is not as extreme as in some of the inspiration photos. I have a long (20-22″) and short necklace (12-14″) on my wishlist.

I always wear my St. Christoper necklace because it’s the longest. Then I typically wear one of the other necklaces which lay above it. I have yet to experiment with more than 2 necklaces but once I find the perfect short and long necklaces, I will.

Here are some looks where I have layered the necklaces…

Where To Buy

Here are a few shops that sell various styles of necklaces in varying lengths. I have tried to include a few price points. I’ll be looking to these brands when I finally decide what necklaces to add to my collection.
