I’m a big advocate of buying less and appreciating what you already own but I don’t always act accordingly. The last part of 2021 and even the first last of 2022 had me feeling adrift with my wardrobe. When I created my spring capsule wardrobe, I started to feel inspired again. I could see so many possibilities. So I figured why not go a step further and create a mini capsule wardrobe?!?
It’s been a while since I’ve done a “Capsule by 5” or capsulex5 mini capsule wardrobe. I started this little challenge for myself back in 2020 and the premise is to select 5 items and style them in as many ways as possible.
The Inspiration
Inspiration for this little capsule wardrobe struck me last weekend when I was watching the second season of Bridgerton in my bedroom, where my spring capsule is visible from my bed. In the first episode, Eloise was wearing a blue dress with sheer sleeves. I was so enamored with the outfit that I immediately averted my gaze to the my clothing rack where my sheer dress was hanging. I knew there was a navy floral dress in my capsule that might work well with it and the wheels were turning.
Mini Capsule Wardrobe Items
Since 2 of the 5 items were decided with the 2 dresses, I just needed to select 3 items from my spring capsule wardrobe that would go well with them and each other.
I know from experience that pants, blouses or shirts are good items to add for versatility. Also, choosing items within the same color palette results in more possible outfits.
I added a pair of flowy navy wide leg pants, a blue chambray blouse and a black silk zip front jacket to go with my 2 dresses.
The Outfits
With just 5 items, I was able to make 20 unique and wearable outfits! This mini capsule wardrobe was a great reminder for me that “we don’t need more. We need to want less.”
Mini Capsule Wardrobe Thoughts
I had a lot of fun styling these 5 items. I’m always amazed at how many outfits I can make with so few items. I wasn’t expecting to get so many and I didn’t want to try unrealistic combinations that I knew I would never wear (there’s no way the floral dress would tuck into the pants and look good or be comfortable, but I’m loving it knotted in the front!).
These mini capsulex5 wardrobes make for great carry-on travel capsules as well. I can imagine taking these 5 items on a beach vacation. I’d add in a swimsuit and I’d take my brown sandals and silver snakeskin boots. With under 10 items, I could travel super light and look stylish doing it!
I hope you enjoyed my mini capsule wardrobe. Check out this post and this one for the 2 other I’ve done in the past. And follow me on Instagram to see more capsule wardrobe content!
