A little while ago, I wrote about 7 questions to ask yourself as a conscious consumer. But today I want to be a little more specific and introduce you to 2 questions to ask yourself before you buy more clothes. An item of clothing that is not a necessity.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot over the past month, especially since it feels like Black Friday and holiday advertising is everywhere.

While it’s important to be mindful about purchase all year round, I think we let our guard down a little more around the holidays and we end up buying more than we really need to.

With that in mind, I’ve been asking myself 2 important questions lately that have helped my cut my clothing spending drastically!

These questions are also helping me resist the urge to even go shopping.

You’re probably wishing I’d just get to the questions already!

I just want you to think about one thing first…off the top of your head, what’s your favorite item of clothing that you own AND wear on a regular basis?

This is the item I want you to refer back to every time you go clothes shopping, either locally or online. It’s helpful to take a photo of the item to refer back to!

Then I want you to ask yourself 2 questions before you buy more clothes:

1. Do I love this item more than, or as much as, my favorite item?

2. Will I wear this item as much as, or more than, my favorite item?

If you can answer at least “yes” to one of these questions, you’re purchasing an item that will be a staple in your wardrobe.

But be brutally honest. It’s the only way we can really reduce our clothing consumption and build a wardrobe we truly love and wear!
