A flat lay photo of the 3 fall 2022 fashion trends.

The Fall 2022 fashion trends have been declared and all I can say is that I’m quite pleased with the selection. At this point, it’s all been done before.

You likely have quite a few of these in your wardrobe already. The ones you don’t, but would like to add, can be pretty easily sourced secondhand. Which is all great news from a sustainability standpoint!

I don’t typically pay much attention to trends. I think they’re just another marketing ploy that companies use to sell us more stuff that we don’t need.

Determining your own unique personal style and identifying the clothing that makes you feel great is much more important than following trends.

But, with that being said, I know that a lot of people (myself included) like to feel current when it comes to their wardrobe. So, I’ve chosen a few trends that I think are the most wearable that you are most likely to already have in your closet.

According to Vogue, these are the fall 2022 fashion trends that their editors will be shopping for this season:

  • Ultra-Baggy Denim*
  • Leather Jackets*
  • Punk Prep*
  • Saturated and Strokable Knits*
  • Bigger, Better Bomber Jackets*
  • The White-Tank-and-Blue-Jean Formula*
  • Floor Skimming Hemlines*
  • Tailored Waistcoat
  • Trenches That Turn Heads
  • Stealth Square Loafers
  • High Coverage Cashmere
  • Eye Catching Stacking Rings
  • Workhorse Bags*

How many of these can you shop from your closet right now?

Out of the 13 trends listed, I could easily incorporate 8 of them using items that I already own (5 of them from my upcoming fall capsule wardrobe!). I’ve noted them with an asterisk (*).

Top 3 Fall 2022 Fashion Trends that are super easy to incorporate:

1. Leather Jackets

Any leather jacket will do, especially if it’s black. No particular style reigns supreme.

Personally, I’ll be incorporating a chore style black leather jacket that I purchased secondhand from a local consignment shop a few years ago. In all honesty, I haven’t gotten a lot of wear out of it. But I love the style of it and haven’t come across many like it so I’ve been holding on to it. I think this will be the push I need to wear it more!

Based on my experience, there are a lot of secondhand options at thrift and consignment shops. In the event that you don’t have access to local secondhand shops, I’ve included a few sustainable and ethical options that I’m loving:

There’s no leather jacket more classic than a biker jacket. This one, from Deadwood, is made from recycled leather with a lining made from recycled plastic bottles. As far as leather jacket production goes, it doesn’t get much more sustainable. At $348, it’s definitely an investment but it’ll never go out of style!

But, if a new leather jacket isn’t in your budget, this one from Fire Gypsy Vintage on Etsy is pure perfection!

2. Ultra-Baggy Jeans

Maybe you have a pair of baggy jeans at the back of your closet or drawer. That pair you hold on to for weight fluctuations or bloating. Or perhaps you can borrow a pair from your partner if they wear a larger size than you.

Just like with leather jackets, there are a lot of secondhand options at thrift and consignment shops. I generally find that you can achieve that baggy fit if you go up a few sizes and get the waist tailored, if needed.

But if local thrifting isn’t an option, here are a few sustainable and ethical pairs that I found:

These Clean Eileen jeans from Nudie Jeans in this medium blue color is perfect for fall! I’m also loving this lighter wash version.

Another good option are these from Outland Denim.

While the above jeans are a great option, can anything ever really top vintage 501s?!?

I don’t think so. And while I’ve never found the perfect pair for myself, AUSPICES on Etsy might be the solution to that problem. They rework vintage Levi jeans to fit you perfectly.

3. The White-Tank-and-Blue-Jean Formula

So, we have the jean situation all sorted. Now all we need is the perfect white tank. Like the above 2 items, the white tank is a pretty common basic in most people’s closet.

But, if not, they’re pretty accessible, you guessed it, secondhand :).

However, if you don’t have one currently in your wardrobe, and you’re in the market for a new one, this one from Pact looks really good and has great reviews:

3 Fall 2022 Fashion Trends, 1 Outfit!

While I’m not be a huge fan of trends in terms of how they’re used to encourage us to consume more, I do appreciate them for prompting me to shop my closet!

I will be including my leather jacket, a pair of baggy jeans and a white t-shirt in my fall capsule wardrobe. I don’t currently own a white tank top but I’ve added the one above to my wish list! These 3 items look great together but they’re also versatile pieces that will go with a lot of other items in my wardrobe.

Here are the 3 of them in one outfit:

I’d love to hear if there are any fall trends that you’ll be incorporating into your wardrobe. Please share them in the comments below.
