Life Lately - Uncomplicated Spaces

Sooo, I completely missed last week’s roundup but I thought that I’d just add it into a little “what I’ve been doing lately” life update post, in case you’re interested.

Don’t get your hopes up though, I promise my life hasn’t been that exciting. Kind of mundane stuff, really. You know, that stuff that you keep putting off because it’s the most miserable thing that you could be doing. Yeah, you know 😉

A Little Closet Update

It all started when I went to a secondhand shop to look at some furniture for a friend. She’ll be moving her family into their forever home in about a year and I have been helping her with interior design plans. The house is a beautiful farmhouse that is in her family and she really likes antique furniture, so I’ve been scouring some local shops in the hopes of finding the perfect pieces.

Well, my scouring for her led to a score for me. I am a big fan of mid century modern furniture and I have been on the lookout for the perfect dresser to put in my closet. I had previously gotten rid of the huge dresser that once lived in my bedroom, which I wrote about here. And I didn’t need a dresser to house extra clothing. I just didn’t like how the closet was set up. I never have, really. In one corner, there was a section of wire shelves that, at one point, I just kept folded clothing on. Over time, as my folding habits changed, a la Marie Kondo, I purchased some bins to contain my various categories of clothing.

It looked like this…

Please, don’t look at the missing piece of the mirror…made you look, didn’t I ;). That’s been broken for years! My friends kid pushed it when it was in the bedroom and it fell over. Luckily, nobody was hurt. I had to tell you the story, lest you thought that my reflection did it. I hope I’m coming off as humorous as I think I am 😉

Ok, back to the dresser in the shop. It was exactly what I was looking for! So I bought it and brought it home. The top 2 drawers had some sticky residue left over from contact paper so I bought some “Goo Gone” at a local hardware store to take it off. It mostly worked but I did use some light sanding to get rid of any left over residue. Then I gave all of the drawers a good cleaning.

This prompted me to take down all of the wire shelving in the closet. After a little re-plastering and sanding, I was able to move the dresser into the empty spot.

Voila…

It is so much nicer to have things contained out of sight! I also like that I have a nice spot to put jewelry and pictures now too!

Yes, I have a framed photo of myself from my wedding day! I have never seen a photo where I’ve looked that happy and it just brings me back to that day <3

I do have further plans for renovating my closet. I mean, obviously I have to paint in there…just look at that trim! But I’m in no rush and we have to do a few other things around the house first.

Paper, Paper, Paper…and A Plethora of Clothes

The other big life undertaking this weekend was to sort through some paper in a large filing cabinet. Whenever paper comes into the house, I go through it right away and sort out what needs to be recycled but the pile that needs to be filed is reneged to a collection spot until that spot fills up and then it gets moved to the filing cabinet. If I’m on top of it, which, let’s be honest, I rarely am with this sort of thing, it gets put in the appropriate folder. If not, it just gets placed randomly in the cabinet. So, this past weekend, I went through those random bits and bobs.

I also went through clothing that had been removed from my closet over the past year and sent to the storage room. I always have these grand plans that I will post it online to sell but then I never get around to it so this weekend I sorted through them all and picked some out for donation and put the rest aside to sell. So, now I have that on my to-do list. It’s really just a matter of getting started is all.

Well, now that I’ve told you why I didn’t get around to a weekly roundup, here are the outfits that I wore last week…

Outfit Roundup

Monday 3.4.19

Working with my favorite outfit formula here! This one definitely makes life easier when I need to get dressed quickly or I can’t think of what to wear!

Close fitting top + jeans + boots + robe + simple accessories. Here I paired my Everlane bodysuit (similar) with my Agolde Jamie jeans and my Ozma of California raw silk duster. I added an old pair of black booties, a black belt (similar) and my usual accessories to tie it all together.

Tuesday 3.5.19

This is a wrap dress from AYR that I’ve had for a few years. I wear it so rarely but I can never bring myself to get rid of it! Honestly, the last time I wore it was this past summer. I’m giving it a little reprieve before I reevaluate its place in my closet. If I can get a few more outfits out of it that I like, I’ll keep it. If not, I have a friend that it looks fabulous on!

I think I like this more as a layering piece. Here I wore it over a long sleeve black tee and thrifted equestrian leggings (which are probably the most comfortable pants I own). I accessorized with my black Moto boots, a vintage ram head ring and a necklace that also doesn’t see a lot of action.

Wednesday 3.6.19

This outfit is definitely in my top 2 for the week! I love the tones here and I am digging this JOYN bag so much! I think it ties in perfectly with my “professor blazer”.

I paired a silk shell with my vintage plaid wool blazer, which I scored from Etsy, my cream silk/linen pants (similar) from Ozma of California, and a pair of leopard print mules. I love mixing prints but I try to keep them in the same color scheme. I think the plaid of the blazer pairs well with the leopard!

Since the blazer and the bag are the statement pieces of the outfit, I kept the accessories simple with a gold necklace, hoops and my everyday watch.

If you are in need of a new handbag, please check out JOYN. They make beautiful bags while doing good in the world. Use the code “Uncomplicated Spaces” to get 10% off!

Thursday 3.7.19

It felt like a tunic kinda day, and this tunic from Elizabeth Suzann is my favorite (technically I only own 2 but this one would stand out in a sea of tunics anyways). I paired it with my favorite jeans and my new Nisolo boots! I had been debating this purchase for a very long time since I already had a pair of black boots. But I really liked that these had a higher heel and a pointy toe, both of which make them feel a little dressier.

I finished the outfit wth a few gold necklaces, gold hoops and my everyday watch…I should just start copying and pasting that last sentence since I type it so much 🙂

Friday 3.8.19

The main reason that I finally ended up buying the Nisolo boots was for these pants. I didn’t want to hem them and therefore, they needed a heel to look their best. I do like the tan boots with them (from last week) but I also wanted the black heels for a dressier option. And they do not disappoint!

I added my gorgeously colored sweatshirt and JOYN bag to the mix and then “I finished the outfit wth a few gold necklaces, gold hoops and my everyday watch” (I copied and pasted that ;)).

This entire outfit contains items from women owned (or part owned) businesses. I wanted to highlight these businesses in honor of International Women’s Day. A year ago, I would not have owned so many items from women (or I would have been unaware of it) but the great thing about being conscientious about what goes into my closet is that I can use my resources to lift up fellow women!

Also, in honor of women…

Saturday 3.9.19

Remember all that paper wrangling…welp, this is what I wore to do it! A pair of old leggings that are my absolute favorite workout leggings and my husband’s sweatshirt for a perfectly oversized fit! Sorry hun, but it looks like you’ll be sharing this with me for the foreseeable future xoxo.

We did go out a couple of times, so I added an old pair of Moto boots, because rain! And you better believe I wore my watch!

Sunday 3.10.19

So this is my other top 2 outfit of the week! I purchased this jumpsuit to wear to a wedding this summer and I honestly didn’t expect to get so much wear out of it. It is made of silk, which I’ve traditionally thought of for only special occasions, but I’ve been enjoying dressing it down too. This post really helped me realize all the styling potential that it had to offer.

I layered the jumpsuit over a long sleeve oatmeal tee and added a pair of old black Moto boots. I kept the accessories super duper simple aka none!
