I’m sure this comes as a shock to nobody but I really like clothes. I like looking at clothes. I like talking about clothes. I like wearing clothes…well, beyond the need to be decent. I think clothing is art and such a great form of self expression. Which is why I’ve decided to do a little monthly roundup of my favorite outfits from the month. And hopefully it gives you a few outfit ideas of your own.
This month has been a re-discovery of my love for simple, minimal, neutral outfits. This past year I’ve experimented a little more with my style…I’ve tried colors and prints more than ever before. Some were welcome additions (hello, green and plaid) and some didn’t stick around for long (hot pink, anyone).
But I guess that’s personal style for you. You veer away from your “formula” sometimes, but you always return to it and when you do, it’s like coming home. You feel safe, comfortable, more like yourself.
I have never really been able to define my style before. I used to refer to it as a “hodgepodge” but this past month brought me closer to an actual definition for it…simple, minimal and neutral, with pops of color and print. And I think that this has always been the definition but it took a period of experimentation for me to really hone in on it.
I’m not gonna lie, I had a hard time narrowing it down to 5 outfits, but neither one of us has time for my top 15 outfits of the month, right?!? In the end, I simply thought about which of the outfits I would rewear in a heartbeat. The ones that were the most comfortable and felt the most like “me”. At the end of the day, I think that’s what our wardrobe should do for us.
So, in no particular order, these were my favorite outfits of the month. And while you’re going through, I hope you get some new outfit ideas from your own closet that you can try.
Outfit 1
I recently altered both of these items. The top was once a tunic that I chopped and hemmed so that it was more cropped. You can read more about that here. I’ve always wanted a b&w striped shirt but I could never find the perfect one. I’ve always loved the material of this top (cotton/linen) and the shape of it.
Cropping it was the best possible outcome, both in terms of sustainability and budget…win-win!
As for the pants, I altered the waistband to make it smaller. I ordered these wool pants back in December and when they came, they were a bit too big. So I put them in my alter pile and only just recently got around to fixing them, basically because I had no clue what to do. I basically ended up sewing an inverted triangle at the back seam and I left the material intact in case I ever had to let them out. I explained it better in an IG highlight here.
I really like the silhouette of this outfit. It’s one of those outfit ideas that’s usually pushed aside in favor of fitted top/loose trousers or loose top/fitted trousers. But even though both are loose, the outfit also has a tailored feel.
I kept the shoes simple with my Birkenstock sandals and added my grey structured bag. This bag has definitely become my favorite. I love the shape, it goes with everything and the spotted pattern on the top flap is so interesting.

Outfit 2
I could wear this type of outfit everyday!
This denim vest is a recent secondhand find and 1 of 2 things that I’ve purchased for myself in 2021 (the other item is a vest too!). I had gone and entire 4.5 months without buying any new clothing, which is the longest I’ve ever gone (by far). I made a conscious decision to visit my favorite consignment shop around the middle of the month knowing full well that I might find something that I liked and I was fine with it.
The nice thing is that I saw quite a few things that I liked but this was the only thing that I KNEW I would wear on repeat…and I have. I’ve owned it for almost 2 weeks and I’ve worn it 5 times already!
So, maybe my no buy didn’t go as long as I had originally planned. But I think it really did it’s job of making me into a more conscientious consumer which is something I am constantly striving for.

Outfit 3
Heading in a different direction than the first 2 outfits with a dress!
I loved this combination so much! I felt like all of my styling juices were flowing with this outfit. Sometimes the best outfit ideas are the ones that just happen when you randomly add items in.
I achieved my “cowgirl chic” look with my vintage denim vest, a gingham prairie dress, and a bandana. I didn’t want to go full blown cowgirl so I added my chunky sandals and a colorful purse. I think everything balances out really well here.

Outfit 4
How do we feel about a dress with trainers? ‘Cause I freaking love it and will be wearing this combo indefinitely.
This is a dress that I found secondhand last year on eBay. It was the start of my loose, flowy dress obsession that is still going strong.
I like clothing with interesting details, especially if the item is black. This dress has 2 gathered tiers, a gathered neckline and puffy sleeves. Even though it’s just a black dress, the detailing makes it feel more special.
I kept the rest of the look clean and simple with black socks, black trainers and my grey handbag.

Outfit 5
I felt so badass in this outfit. I always do when I wear this floral dress with my combat boots. There’s something so sweet, but salty about the whole look for me.
It was a little chilly so I added my flannel shirt as a light layer and grabbed my favorite bag! I think that if I ever had to, I could get rid of all of my other bags and just wear this one!
I watched a Youtube video recently where somebody said that florals were season specific. I thought that was hilarious. I wear this dress year round, and even more in the colder months. Swipe through this IG post to see how else I’ve styled it.

Well that sums up my favorite outfits of the month.
Did you get any outfit ideas that you can apply to your existing wardrobe? Which one was your favorite?
I think its nice to look back through photos, or to take notes on which outfits or items made us feel really great. What we wear is the foundation of how we present ourselves to the world. What we wear has the power to shape our day. Wear the things that make you feel amazing!
Until next time,
