We just recently returned from our first ever trip to Colorado. And we loved it!

We left home on Saturday, August 8th and returned on Saturday, August 14th, both of which were very long travel days. But the scenery was beautiful at least, so it made the drive a little more tolerable. I loved all of the wildflowers growing on the sides of the road. The sunflowers were my favorite!

Denver

We stayed in Denver the night of the 8th and left for our airbnb in Breckenridge on the 9th, but not before I had a chance to meet up with one of my bestest IG friends, Joan (@semi.joan ). We had been chatting in our IG DMs for a while so I was really excited that we could make a meet up possible. She was as nice and sweet in person as she seems to be online.

We had made a plan to meet up and do a little shopping, followed by lunch. We met up at one of Joan’s favorite Denver shops, Meek Vintage, and did a little browsing. I found a dress and she found a silk shirt, something she had been wanting to find since I’m always going on about how great they are for summer layering. I even had my silk shirt on for our meet up so it feels like fate that she found one lol. We also wore our matching Pomona shorts that we both made and fisherman sandals (the sandals were a coincidence tho).

Once we finished up at Meek, we headed to a local cafe, Crema Coffee House. My family and I had eaten breakfast there earlier and they had the hugest, most delicious croissants I’d ever eaten! Would definitely recommend a stop if you’re in the area.

It was so nice to sit down and chat about fashion, motherhood and the IG experience. I can’t wait until we can do it again.

Breckenridge

I was not prepared for Breckenridge, particularly the drive there. The mountains were gorgeous but driving down those declines for the first time was a harrowing experience lol. But the best (most terrifying?!?) part was the signage…

A photo taken from a car of a sign that says "Runaway Truck Ramp". A short gravel road that runs up the mountain is in the background.

Luckily, we didn’t see any trucks that had to use it. And our breaks remained intact lol.

We checked into our airbnb at 4pm and immediately went out into the village. We ate at the Flip Side 4 out of the 6 nights that we were there (we ate at the condo for the other 2). They had the most amazing shakes and food, so why bother eating elsewhere lol. We ate lots of gelato and I made coffee in an actual coffee pot for the first time (I’d only ever made pour over or French press since I’m the only one who drinks it).

We went hiking at Blue Lakes one day, where we hiked up along a waterfall (still convinced we were just following a goat path), crossed said waterfall, and saw some goats. This was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip and I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was a little smoky from the California wildfires (which you can see in the first picture) but it was still a really great experience.

One large and one baby goat, both white, resting on small rock cliffs at Blue Lake area.

We walked along Main Street quite a bit and popped into some of the local shops. We had access to a pool near our condo so we took advantage of that every day which was nice with the kids.

A post with the "Town of Breckenridge" written on it. There are some pictures and written history about the town.

The boys did some mountain biking. I thought this photo that my husband took on the mountain was pretty accurate for the driving we did 😉

I spent the chilly early mornings reading on the deck before anyone woke up with a hot cup of coffee and a blanket (this might have been my absolute favorite part of the trip). I finished Panchinko which is undoubtedly one of my favorite books of all time! We tried to go kayaking…twice…but the gods had other plans lol.

Overall, it was a relaxing trip with gorgeous scenery. Exactly what we needed after not going anywhere for a very long time. And even though the county we visited was classified as high transmissibility for Covid by the time our trip occurred, we felt like we remained safe. We drove in our own vehicle, we stayed at an airbnb with a 5-step enhanced cleaning process, we ate outside and away from other people and we masked up when we went inside. Ahhhh, traveling in the time of Covid.

Adjusting to the elevation was no joke. I felt very winded just walking around at the very start of the trip and didn’t feel fully acclimated by the time we left. Luckily, I didn’t get any headaches. My son experienced some car sickness after hiking one day but was fine for the rest of the trip. We did pick up an O2 canister to have on hand thanks to some advice I got in my DMs on IG.

But even with everything considered, I would 10/10 recommend a trip here. We’re thinking of going back for some skiing some winter.

Have you visited Breckenridge? Or another place in Colorado that you absolutely loved? Please share about it in the comments.

Until next time,
