You are currently viewing How I style my Spring Capsule Wardrobe #1

The first week of dressing from my spring capsule wardrobe is over and I thought I’d share the outfits that I made out of the 30 items. The weather was pretty gloomy and chilly this week so I definitely got some good use out of my sweaters.

I really love dressing during the transitional seasons. I like being able to layer without having to bundle up in a big coat, scarf, gloves and hat!

I didn’t list out the items for each outfit. I shared all of the item brands in my previous post. If there’s something that you’re interested in, check that out. I did include the shoes here though since they’re not listed in the previous post.

Outfit 1

This dress and this denim jacket are 2 of the items that I was the most excited about in my spring capsule, so of course they were the first things that I pulled out.

This quilted denim jacket has a nice weight to it so it’s the perfect transitional weather piece to go over a sleeveless dress.

She is wearing white converse sneakers with bright blue socks and is holding a bright green handbag.

I like to add colorful accessories in the warmer months. I chose this Kelly green handbag that I’ve had for years and these bright blue socks.

Outfit 2

I felt so great in this outfit. There’s just something about the juxtaposition of a soft, flowy dress with more casual, chunky pieces that I love.

A white woman with her blond wavy hair pulled back into a low ponytail is standing in front of a light wall and wearing a dark blue shirt open over a brown/pink/red long floral dress with brown socks and brown chunky sandals. This is the second outfit from her spring capsule.

It’s too cold for bare feet but I really wanted to wear these chunky vintage sandals that I found last fall. The solution: socks! The socks with sandals combo is a hotly debated subject (you either love it or you hate it) but I think it’s lots of fun…and practical.

Shoes: Sonoma Jean Company (local vintage)

Outfit 3

This sweater almost got donated but at the last minute, I couldn’t bear to part with it. I thrifted it a few years ago before I really started paying attention to materials. It’s made of a synthetic material so I added it to the discard pile in an attempt to only have natural materials in my wardrobe. But I do really love the style and it’s unlike anything else I own, so it’s getting a second chance.

The most sustainable clothing is the stuff that you already own, even if it’s made form synthetic materials.

There is a navy blue border around the waist, sleeves and neck of the sweater and gold buttons on the front pockets.

I decided to add my black combat boots to balance the dark edging on the sweater (I think it’s actually navy but it comes across as black sometimes).

Shoes: Dr. Marten’s Leona boots

Outfit 4

Pants!!! I’m definitely way more of a dress person, but I’ve been trying to incorporate more pant/jeans outfits into my life, which is why I have 6 pairs in this capsule. That feels like a lot. I also have a pair of trousers that I need to alter which might make their way in.

This colorful sweater is a secondhand find from last spring. It was definitely one of the first pieces that I purchased when I started to experiment with color last year. At the time, I was pretty shocked that I would even buy such a colorful sweater, but now, it feels right.

She is holding a bright green purse. This is the fourth outfit from her spring capsule.

Shoes: Børn oxfords

Outfit 5

I couldn’t let the week pass without wearing a dress that I made. This was actually the very first item of clothing that I ever sewed (I can’t believe I’ve been sewing for almost a year)! It is definitely a warmer weather item and I couldn’t wait to bring it into my spring capsule.

I added a dark grey cardigan for warmth and also for some contrast. I really like how it looks with the creamy white.

She is wearing black socks with little pink tufts and brown and black leopard print boots.

The dress and cardigan felt a little proper so I added my leopard print boots and some fun socks. Sometimes it’s all about the little details.

I grew up making my own clothes. In the Midwest in the 50’s and 60’s most girls learned the skill. I stopped sewing my clothes when I became a mother. It was too hard with infants and toddlers. I have been making quilts for 20 years though. I may have to make some clothes again. I like your reasons for doing it.

Great outfits – where is the quilted denim jacket from?

    Thanks x

      Thank you Maggie!

The brand is Universal Thread. I bought it secondhand last year so maybe you can find it on a resell site.
