You are currently viewing 5 Spring Outfits with a Colorful Capsule Wardrobe #4

Another week has passed (very slowly, in my opinion) which means it’s time for another weekly roundup of spring outfits from my colorful capsule wardrobe. The weather was chilly again but I was determined to not let that get me down. I feel like this week of outfits is a good balance of the colorful items in my capsule and those that lean more neutral. We’re starting to see some repeat items as well, which makes sense with fewer items to choose from, and the obvious fact that I have favorites 😉

I ended up making a couple of switches this week, which I’ll show you at the end of the post. I went through a storage bin on Wednesday evening and pulled out a couple of items that I thought I was over but realized that I really wasn’t. This storage bin is where I keep items that I think my daughter might want when she’s older. I don’t put things in there with the intention of taking them out but I’m definitely not opposed to it if it feels right.

I don’t view my capsule as a rigid collection of items. Sometimes I don’t make any switches (my winter capsule wardrobe was like that) but there are lots of capsules where I do, especially if they are longer term. It’s not always possible to predict how the weather will be or how you are going to feel all the way through.

Don’t ever let the fear of not making the right choices hold you back from trying out a capsule wardrobe. Make it work for you and you’ll be able to reap all of the benefits! And if you’re not sure how to get started, send me a message.

Monday

What better way to start off the week that with all items that I’ve sewn. I still can’t believe that a year ago I only wished that I could sew clothes and now I get to wear them. The pandemic has been tough but learning to sew has been one silver lining I didn’t anticipate.

It was chilly so I layered my vintage quilt coat over my gingham house dress that I paired with my brown sandals. I added my purple handbag for a pop of color. I actually wore this exact outfit back in week 2, sans the jacket…spring weather is all over the place!

This feels like the epitome of spring outfits. It’s like I’m trying to encourage warm weather by wearing a light cotton dress and sandals. But Mother Nature has other plans and I was forced to put on a warm coat.

Spring outfits, week 4, look 1 - a small white woman is wearing a knee length white quilted coat over a long brown and white gingham dress and brown chunky sandals. the it holding a small purple handbag in her right hand but the strap. She is turned slightly sideways and looking at the camera.

This coat is reversible which is my favorite part. Just look at that little bit of color and pattern peeking out!

Tuesday

This striped top was originally a tunic! With an easy alteration, I cropped it into a much more wearable length. I added a pair pf black jeans, a green chore jacket and my chunky brown sandals. This feels very classic.

Spring outfits, week 4, look 2 - a small white woman is wearing a dark green chore coat over a short black and white striped top and black jeans. She is wearing the same brown sandals as Monday and she is wearing a colorful (the colors are grey, cream, mustard and orange) scarf.

The outfit felt like it needed something extra, so I tied a colorful bandana around my neck. When in doubt, wear a bandana…they’re so easy to style. I think it adds a nice pop of color, don’t you?

Wednesday

I know the days are becoming numbered where I can comfortably wear a big chunky boot. And as much as I’ll miss them, I’m kinda looking forward to it too.

I like the fact that I get 4 distinct seasons where I live. Even though it means I have more clothing, it also means that I basically get to put a wardrobe away for 6 months and then have the excitement of pulling it out again. There’s no better way to shop your wardrobe. I’ve saved so much money on clothing since I’ve incorporated a capsule wardrobe.

This white cotton dress is one of my favorite capsule items. It feels so fresh and crisp. And I love the lightness of the dress compared to the heaviness of the boots. This is my favorite kind of juxtaposition when it comes to clothes.

Spring outfits, week 4, look 3 - a small white woman is wearing a full length white dress with long sleeves and a drop waist. She is wearing black platform boots and holding a grey handbag with a black strap in her right hand. She is also wearing a gold necklace.

I added my favorite handbag. Funny story about this handbag. I “won” it at a charity function back in the fall of 2019. And by won it, I mean I paid way more for a purse that I ever would.

I was never more excited to buy a purse than I was that night. And it wasn’t just because the money was going to a good cause, I think it was because I waited so that I could put in the very last bid and I got it.

Whenever I look at this purse, I feel that rush of excitement and fun and who doesn’t want to feel that more often!?!

Thursday

By the time I got to Thursday, I felt like this week had been a year long! And I was really needing a mood booster of an outfit. So I out together the springiest of spring outfits!

This little vintage patchwork jacket that I found on eBay just screams spring doesn’t it? It’s the lightest, most comfortable piece and it’s such a fun piece to wear.

I decided to wear my black bodysuit to tone it down a bit, jeans and converse sneakers and I really like the combo! I have been embracing jeans a little more over the past few weeks and it feels good to have another type of item to style. These are the Levi ribcage jeans and they have the perfect amount of stretch.

Spring outfits, week 4, look 4 - a small white woman is wearing a patchwork jacket made up of pastel colors. The jacket is open over a black bodysuit and medium wash blue jeans. She is wearing white converse high top sneakers and holding a purple handbag.

I added my purple handbag because I thought it paired so nicely with the purple in the coat. I also matched my mask to it and added a grey cardigan over the jacket to head out. You can see more details here.

Friday

Finally, we made it to the weekend! And to celebrate, I’m wearing the most springy sweater ever.

I thrifted it a few years ago but I have maybe worn it a handful of times. I was trying to figure out why I didn’t wear it and I think that it was because I bought it when my hair was really dark and I didn’t really like wearing dark grey as much then. I probably shouldn’t have even gotten it but I couldn’t resist these sleeves.

It’s been one of those items that I’ve felt guilty about because it’s just been sitting in my closet, unworn. I’ve debated getting rid of it a few times but I haven’t been able to.

But after trying it on now that I have lighter hair, I really love the contrast. I’m excited to be getting some wear out of it!

And I’m really enjoying it with these wide leg pants. Even though they’re brown, I think they’re a light enough shade to provide some contrast.

I paired the items with my Nike trainers that I recently started wearing with my outfits. I really like how the grey of the trainers compliments the grey of the sweater and how the gold coordinates with the brown pants.

Spring outfits, week 4, look 5 - a small white woman is wearing a a grey long sleeved sweater with floral embroidery down the sleeves. She is wearing it with brown wore legged pants and black, grey and gold trainers.

Just look at the embroidery on these sleeves. Tell me you could resist it 😉

What Changes I Made to the Capsule

As promised, here are the subtractions and additions that I made to my spring capsule wardrobe.

I decided to remove the 2 items on the left. I wasn’t excited to wear the striped sweater or the light blue jeans. The 4 items on the right are ones that I have added over the last week…the grey cotton sweater, the altered striped top, a pair of dark wide leg jeans and a white cotton cardigan. These 4 items feel like more versatile pieces.

I also added in these 2 dusters. I went through a big duster phase a few years ago and after realizing that they were the perfect spring outfits layering piece, I’m excited to bring them back in.

When I published my spring capsule wardrobe, I was at 30 pieces. With the subtraction of 2 and the addition of 6, that puts me at 34 items currently.

Additions

// eileen fisher striped top

// apiece apart jeans*

// liz claiborne white cardigan*

// eileen fisher long black duster

// ozma of california red duster

That concludes another week in my spring capsule wardrobe. I hope you enjoyed this weeks outfits. It’s hard for me to choose a favorite but I think I’d go with Thursday’s outfit if I absolutely had to choose.

Which outfit was your favorite? Are you enjoying my weekly roundup of spring outfits? If so, I’d love it if you could let me know in the comments.
