You are currently viewing What’s in my fall shoe capsule?

Right on the heels of unveiling my colorful fall capsule wardrobe, I thought it would be good timing to also show you my fall shoe capsule.

Brace yourself…there’s a few pairs of platforms. Shocking, I know.

I don’t typically include shoes or coats in with my clothing capsule wardrobe count. While some people love handbags or sweaters or jewelry, my main weaknesses are shoes and outerwear. I’m pretty good at resisting buying another dress similar to one that I already have, but show me a pair of cool black boots and it’s game over!

Same with jackets. Like, how many plaid jackets do I even need?

Okay, so I only really have 2 plaid jackets, but that’s just because I don’t come across really great ones that often ;). I cannot be held accountable for the plaid jacket buying actions of my future self.

But, even though I have a weakness for these items, I TRY really hard to not add them too often…

I know that the more things I add to my wardrobe, whether it’s clothing, shoes or jackets, means the fewer opportunities I’ll have to wear what I already own.

And getting as many wears as possible out of my clothing is very important to me. This tends to keep me reigned in and keeps me conscious of what I’m willing to add.

So, what’s actually in my fall shoe capsule?

I have a total of 8 pairs of shoes/boots in my shoe capsule for this fall.

  • 5 pairs of boots
  • 1 pair of shoes
  • 1 pair of sandals
  • 1 pairs of sneakers

Of the 8 items, I will wear my boots the most, especially the further we get into fall. The sandals that I’ve included will be worn mostly in the transitional months of September and October, although I’ll try to get a few extra wears with fun socks.

I’ve had a shift in my shoe style over the past few years. Where I once preferred dressier boots with heels, I’m now finding myself leaning more towards chunkier bottoms that fit my more casual capsule wardrobe style better.

I think the chunkier shoes look great with the majority of my clothes, but that are also really comfortable.

I’ve always heard that you didn’t have to sacrifice comfort for style but college partying me (in hot pink stilettos) would have never believed it.

In no particular order, here are the actual items in my fall shoe capsule…

* denotes a secondhand purchase.

A pair of black combat boots that I've included in my fall shoe capsule are silhouetted against a white background with text alongside them.

Dr. Marten’s Leona Boots: This is the 3rd year for these boots. They are definitely my most worn pair of cold weather boots. They are extremely comfortable and they look great with everything in my wardrobe.

Frye Harness Boots: A pair of moto boots that I’ve had for about 5 years. I really like to wear these with more romantic type items in my wardrobe to contrast with the tougher vibe of the boots.

A pair of white combat boots with a thick black sole and a silver zipper up the front are silhouetted against a white background with text alongside them.

Ganni Combat Boots*: These are the newest addition to my wardrobe. I’ve been wanting to add a pair of white boots to my wardrobe for a few years now but had been waiting to find the perfect pair.

A pair of silver snakeskin boots with a 1 inch heel and a zipper up the back that I've included in my fall shoe capsule are silhouetted against a white background with text alongside them.

J. Crew Snakeskin Boots*: These are also a new addition to my wardrobe. Just like the white boots, I’ve had a pair of silver boots on my wish list since last winter. I like that these have a lower heel.

A pair of slouchy brown suede boots with white stitching and about a 2 inch heel are silhouetted against a white background with text alongside them.

Bedstu Suede Boots*: I found these during the summer and as soon as I saw them, I knew they would be perfect under dresses in the colder months.

A pair of cream colored Oxford shoes with 2 brown tabs on each side through which a black ribbons is laced that I've included in my fall shoe capsule are silhouetted against a white background with text alongside them.

Marni Shoes*: My absolute best local secondhand shoe find ever! Maybe my best shoe find ever, actually. I imagine I’ll wear these a lot with dresses…and socks! Read more here.

A pair of black and white platform sandals that I've included in my fall shoe capsule are silhouetted against a white background with text alongside them.

Stella McCartney Platform Sandals*: I call these my “space sandals”. They’re definitely not for everyone but I love them. They’re super comfortable and make any outfit seem infinitely cooler.

A pair of grey, black and white Nike sneakers are silhouetted against a white background with text alongside them.

Nike Air Max Shoes*: I’m a little late to the dad sneaker trend but what else is new. I actually don’t follow trends and only buy something if I really like it and will wear it for a long time.

These are the 8 pairs of shoes that I will wear this fall, bringing my current capsule wardrobe count to 42 (34 clothing items + 8 pairs of shoes). I will do another installment similar to this one to outline jackets that I will be wearing this fall.

I hope you’re enjoying the breakdown. I’m personally finding it very helpful for me to go through and outline my items like this. To see more from my current capsule, follow me on Instagram and Pinterest.

I love to see a good pair of Frye boots making your list! My most used fall to winter to spring shoe is my pair of Frye Sabrina lace ups. They’re very similar in style to the doc martens you wear. I absolutely love the sabrinas- they pair with everything and anything. Frye boots are my fall and winter shoes go to. The frye Karens are another favorite of mine to go to. Other than that I keep it very basic with two pairs of northface winter boots (depending on the weather) and two pairs of birkenstocks, one sandal for the fun sock and sandal transitions, and one closed toe clog.

Hi! I love this Frye boots. I have another pair that I use more in the winter but I can’t remember what kind they are but I know they’re a harness type. And I agree that a lace up style of boot goes with everything. I’ll have to check out the styles you mention.
